Susan Delaney, Oasis Volunteer

Volunteer Spotlight

Hi! My name is Susan Delaney. I have been a widow for 11 years. I have 3 lovely children and 11 grandchildren, all who live within 2 miles of my home; so, you can imagine how wonderful and busy my life is. I started out as a respiratory therapist at Crouse Hospital (where I met my husband, a pediatric nurse) then went into nursing and finally became a nurse practitioner. I worked at SUNY Upstate for 32 years before retiring. The majority of my career I cared for children focusing on those with chronic illnesses and palliative care. Since retiring, I spend a great deal of time with my family. I am also a Wish Granter for CNY Make-A-Wish helping to make children’s wishes come true.

I joined Oasis in 2016 and began volunteering as a tutor in the fall of 2018 until the pandemic put everything on pause. Luckily, tutoring has started back up at Marcellus and I have started tutoring again. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to help and interact with children.

Besides volunteering at Oasis, I love reading and participate in a book club. I am a beginner quilter and enjoy going to the theater. I also enjoy trying new foods paired with a nice glass of wine, shared with friends.
