Upstate Oasis Falls Prevention

Genoa teaches Tai Chi for Arthritis at Upstate Oasis.

“Tai Chi helps people develop body awareness, joint mobility and balance,” says Genoa Wilson

“It’s almost like learning a whole new language, with emphasis on mental focus and breathing. For good balance, you need to focus on building strength and flexibility in the ankles, feet and lower legs, and Tai Chi does this. One woman in my class told me, ‘It feels like my inner gyroscope is activated. I’ve regained my center.’”

When Alice McHugh fell, breaking a bone in her foot, she was just going about her daily routine. She’s on the mend now, but more committed than ever to get back to teaching Oasis falls prevention classes.
